Download Arborations
The Arborations desktop app, for Mac and Windows. It signs in with your own Microsoft 365 account and reads and writes the same records as the phone app, in your own tenant. Nothing is installed on a server anywhere.
Mac
Arborations for Mac
Apple silicon, macOS 11 or later. Signed and notarised, so it opens without any warning.
- Unzip it and drag Arborations to Applications
- Open it and sign in with your work Microsoft 365 account
Windows
Arborations for Windows
Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Nothing else to install: everything it needs is in the folder.
- Extract the whole zip somewhere you keep programs, open the Arborations folder and run SGArboricultureHub.exe
- During the beta Windows shows a SmartScreen notice for a new publisher: choose More info, then Run anyway
Before you open it
The desktop app works inside a SharePoint site of its own in your Microsoft 365: one site, nothing else in your tenant. The desktop app sets that up itself: your Microsoft 365 administrator presses Set up Arborations for your company on its Home page and follows seven lines, about ten minutes, once. Getting started shows each step, exactly what the consent screens say, and the way to do it by hand instead.
Updates
The desktop app checks for a newer build when it opens and says so beside its build number; Settings › Check for updates does the same on demand, and Update now downloads it, swaps it in and reopens. Every release is listed, with what changed, on the releases page. The build number you see in the desktop app is the release's name, so the two are easy to match up.
Arborations QGIS plugin
The consulting side's drawing tools: plan import, site plans and the AS 4970 impact assessment report, inside QGIS, reading the trees your people captured in the phone app. It needs QGIS 3.44 LTR, the current long-term release from qgis.org, on Mac or Windows. The plugin's protected runtime is built for the Python that 3.44 ships, so an older QGIS will not load it.
Two ways to install it, same build either way:
- From the desktop app. Arborations › Settings › Install the plugin into QGIS. The desktop app copies the plugin into your QGIS profile and switches it on. Restart QGIS. Press it again after a desktop app update to bring the plugin up to date.
- From the zip. Download the plugin zip, then in QGIS: Plugins › Manage and Install Plugins › Install from ZIP › choose the file › Install Plugin. Restart QGIS.
First use: the Arborations toolbar's Sign in shows a short code and opens Microsoft's sign-in page; sign in with your own Microsoft 365 account and enter the code. The plugin then reaches the same Arborations site as the desktop and phone apps, and no other. Your administrator consents to it and grants it the site in steps 3 and 4 of Getting started; the licence is the organisation's, the same one the desktop app shows.
Arborations
The phone app is in open beta on iPhone and iPad: install it through TestFlight (Apple's TestFlight app installs first if you don't have it). On Android it is installed through Google Play testing during the beta; apply for the beta and the invitation comes with it.
Set it up once, properly
A dedicated site, one consent, one grant. Then each person installs and signs in with their own account.
